Gastritis – what the heck?
Posted on

This past week was busy with my father in law passing away. The day of his visitation I had scope that had already been scheduled for two months. I couldn’t cancel as I need to know why I’ve been nauseated for almost eight months. My mom took me nice and early and I was taken in right away. They let me keep my glasses, my iPhone and my Fitbit on. So brought into the operating room my phone and glasses went into my bag of clothes. I got to keep my Fitbit on as I was curious about how I slept under anastetic. They sprayed this god awful throat numbing stuff in my throat and started the sleepy medication. Only, I wasn’t completely out before they started to shove the big huge white plastic thing down my throat and I remember being given a drool towel. Then waking up to being told to cough and I’d feel better. The sweet nurse got me an apple juice. She then told me he took two biopsies and my stomach was red which it was supposed to be pink. She told me I had Gastritis and to make a follow up appointment in eight weeks. I had no clue on the time but my mom got me home and into bed. She stayed with me and I slept and was pretty loopy all day. I did get my appointment via my Lupie buddy who works for my doctor.
My husband called to see if I could make it for the evening visitation and I was still out of it. So I eventually got in the shower and into fresh pj’s and settled in with the tv. I remembered that I wanted to check my Fitbit and it didn’t show me asleep at all. Well there went that experiment.
So Gastritis, what is it? I used the wonder World Wide Web and Dr. Google:
Gastritis is inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It may occur as a short episode or may be of a long duration. There may be no symptoms. When symptoms are present they may include pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen, nausea, or vomiting.[1] Complications may include bleeding, stomach ulcers, and stomach tumors. When due to autoimmune problems, low red blood cells due to not enough vitamin B12 may occur, a condition known as pernicious anemia. *source Wikipedia

So what does all this mean for me? I have NO clue. I’ve never really had to take antacids, I get B12 shots monthly, and I’ve been tested for the H pylori bacteria often. I know that the biopsies were to see if I have celiac disease or any other autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases are like chips, you can never just have one.
So do you have Gastritis? What do you do to treat it? I barely can eat much now as it is.

I have AI inflammation of the small intestine and I take Aloe Pura Bio-Active Aloe Vera Juice with Manuka Honey – you can get it on Amazon. Aloe vera and manuka honey are both very healing and soothe inflammation. Not sure how it would work on the stomach but might be worth a try. Hope you feel better soon, it sounds like you’ve been through the mill.
